Application Deadline: August 31, 2025
The Department of Psychiatry at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) seeks Faculty Instructors to expand our research portfolio. Faculty Instructors are matched to a specific research group/lab and work to support the research initiatives of that group/lab under supervision. The Department of Psychiatry has a very robust research portfolio, with over $25 million in awards in the last fiscal year. Department research is generally conducted among the Rutgers Addiction Research Center (https://addiction.rutgers.edu/), the Center for Psychiatric Health & Genomics (https://cphg.rutgers.edu/), the Division of Addiction Psychiatry (https://rwjms.rutgers.edu/department/psychiatry/divisions), the Center for Advanced Human Brain Imaging Research (https://sites.rutgers.edu/cahbir/), and individual labs including basic science and animal models.
Faculty Instructors will perform research activities on behalf of the Department of Psychiatry in strategic growth areas, function collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, and maintain effective communication with staff and administration. The Instructor position is the junior-most faculty rank, which is designed to serve as an on-ramp to other faculty tracks. Instructors will have a faculty supervisor as well as a non-supervisory faculty mentor. At the conclusion of the first two years as an Instructor, if supported by the Instructor’s supervisor and mentor, the Instructor will apply to be re-appointed to a faculty track (e.g. tenure, research, clinical, etc.). The faculty Instructor position is contingent upon continued funding availability and is limited to no more than three years.
