Post-Doc Remote Work

Application Deadline: January 1, 2025

The Growing Words Project at the University of Iowa is seeking candidates for a one-year remote-work post-doc starting immediately.  Now in its fifth year, Growing Words (PI: Bob McMurray) is a multi-year longitudinal project that seeks to understand how fundamental word recognition and speech perception skills develop during the school age years and how these relate to language and reading disorders.  It combines eye-tracking measures of spoken and written word recognition, new VAS approaches to speech sound categorization, standardized measures of language, reading, phonological processing, survey data about SES and the home language/literacy environment, measures of school quality, and other experimental paradigms in a variety of domains. Critically, a subset of the children also underwent structural MRI and white matter diffusion imaging along with LENA measures of the home language environment.

The position has a one year term, but may be renewable depending on funding.   Both work-from-home and in-office work can be supported.  Periodic travel to Iowa City will also be supported (a highly desirable benefit. 😉). Candidates must be available to start immediately.  Due to the immediate need, candidates are required to be US Citizens or to have a current visa that is valid for work in the US.   Salary starts at $61,000 (commensurate with experience) with excellent benefits through the University of Iowa.

Interested applicants should send a current CV, a letter outlining their interests and background and a representative publication to Bob McMurray (bob-mcmurray@uiowa.edu) and Ece Demir-Lira (ece-demir-lira@uiowa.edu).
